DOY Award Winner 2006Maverick Transportation announced Lee Hammond of Norwalk, OH, as their 2006 Driver of the Year on Friday, February 2nd, 2007 at their annual Driver of the Year Banquet.

After eleven years of service with Maverick, Hammond was honored with the Driver of the Year title after a company wide vote from the twelve Drivers of the Month selected throughout 2006. “I’m so thankful that I found a family in Maverick,” said Hammond during her acceptance speech. “Being chosen to represent Maverick’s entire fleet means so much to me.”

Hammond’s record proves she is devoted to her profession; she has been presented with numerous safety awards, included a Million Mile Safe Driving Award. “It is drivers like Lee that define the professionalism in our industry,” said Maverick President and COO Stephen Selig.
As Maverick’s October Driver of the Month for 2006, Hammond was recognized for her combination of safe driving, positive attitude, and genuine driver professionalism. She attributes her longevity and success with Maverick to the people she gets to work with on a day-to-day basis.

Maverick Specialized was recently presented with a 2006 Crystal Achievement Award from Glass Magazine, the official magazine of the National Glass Association. The company won in the Manufacturing and Fabrication category and was awarded for “Most Innovative Plant Equipment.”

Mike Weiss, Director of Research and Development for Maverick Specialized, accepted the award at the recent GlassBuild America Expo in Las Vegas.

Selected by a panel of 51 judges representing all segments of the industry, the awards recognize significant innovations and achievements in architectural glass technology, manufacturing, and marketing. The Crystal Achievement Awards saw a total of 114 entries.

Nancy Davis, editor-in-chief, Glass Magazine said, “Each of the nominations represented a top-quality project, and many of them will be described in future issues of Glass Magazine. We had excellent participation in this first award program for architectural glass and look forward to the future of the program.”

Billy Williams Presented with 15 Year Safe Driving Award Maverick Transportation recently presented driver Dale Dunn of Batesville, AR, with a 15 year Safe Driving Award. Dunn has been with Maverick for over 15 years and has received numerous awards from the Arkansas based flatbed carrier, including Driver of the Year honors and a Million Mile Safe Driving Award.

The award was presented to Dunn to reward and recognize 15 consecutive years of accident free driving. As a recipient of this award, Dunn was presented with a customized plaque and a leather jacket for his outstanding safety efforts.

“This is the type of award that only the most professional, safest drivers receive. It is truly an honor to have a driver like Dale Dunn to acknowledge,” said Vice President of Safety Dean Newell.

Dunn has also been recognized and honored in a variety of other ways throughout the years for his professional driving achievements. He is a regular competitor in the Arkansas Truck Driving Championships, earning four 1st Place Champion awards and was named overall Grand Champion in 1999. That same year he was honored as Maverick’s Driver of the Year. In addition, Dunn served as a driver instructor for over 6 years and was twice honored as Maverick’s Driver of the Month.

Maverick Driver Wins Grand Champion at 2006 Arkansas Trucking Championship (7/17/2006)

Maverick Transportation driver Ben Eby of Caldwell, OH, won Grand Champion in the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship competition recently held at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale, AR.

Eby scored the most cumulative points in the total of 4 categories: pre-trip inspection, written exam, personal interview, and the driving skills test where he placed first in his class (Straight Truck). As first place winner and Grand Champion, Eby will also represent Arkansas, along with eight other drivers, in the National Trucking Driving Championship in New Orleans, LA in August.

Thirty trucking companies entered 171 drivers in the annual state industry competition. Drivers must be nominated by their employer for the annual competition and meet certain safety performance guidelines in order to compete. Eby has been a professional truck driver for over 30 years and has logged more than 3.7 million safe driving miles.

Eby has previously qualified for the National Truck Driving Championship, having finished first in the Arkansas competition in 1998, 2000, and 2002. He has been a Maverick driver for over 11 years.

 “The national competition showcases the safest and most professional truck drivers in the United States. It is the highest professional achievement that a commercial truck driver like Mr. Eby can obtain,” said Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association.

Other companies entering drivers included such major carriers as J. B. Hunt Transport, ABF Freight System, FedEx, and Wal-Mart Stores.

Maverick Driver Qualifies for National Competition  (7/17/2006)

Maverick Transportation driver Keith Graham, of Statesville, NC, qualified as one of eight drivers who will represent the state of Arkansas in the National Truck Driving Championship in New Orleans, LA in August.

Graham, a rookie in this year’s state competition, placed first in his class at the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship recently held at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center in Springdale, AR.

Thirty trucking companies entered 171 drivers in the annual state industry competition. Drivers must be nominated by their employer for the annual competition and meet certain safety performance guidelines in order to compete. Graham has been a professional truck driver for 5 years and has logged more than 500,000 safe driving miles.

 “The national competition showcases the safest truck drivers in the United States. It is the highest professional achievement that a commercial truck driver like Mr. Graham can obtain so it’s quite an honor to qualify,” said Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association.

Drivers at the state competition were evaluated on their performance in a personal interview, a written exam regarding federal and state regulations, a “pre-trip” inspection to look for any equipment defects, and a skills competition in which each driver must safely negotiate his/her truck and trailer around a skills course that tests their parking, backing, and turning skills. Other companies entering drivers included such major carriers as J. B. Hunt Transport, ABF Freight System, FedEx, and Wal-Mart Stores.

"June 12, 2006" Maverick USA, Inc., a leading flatbed transportation and logistics provider, today announced the impending purchase of Schneider National’s Specialized Division. Schneider Specialized is currently the largest specialized glass carrier in North America, and also offers other specialized services. This transaction enables Maverick USA to expand its services to include national specialized glass transportation capabilities, and allows Schneider to focus on its strategy of developing global transportation and logistics solutions for multinational Fortune 1000 organizations. The acquisition is expected to close by July 31, 2006.

"We will now be recruiting from and hiring throughout the majority of the state of Iowa, along with expansion into parts of Eastern Nebraska, Southeastern Minnesota, and Southwestern Wisconsin," said Recruiting Manager Brad Vaughn.

Tommy Jacobs, $10,000 Inspection Perfection WinnerA Clean DOT Inspection equaled a big payday for Maverick driver Tommy Jacobs of Hazel Green, AL. Jacobs was the winner of Maverick's recent Inspection Perfection contest, held throughout 2005.

The contest, aimed at increasing safety and DOT compliance, gave every driver that received a clean DOT inspection throughout the year a chance at the $10,000 grand prize drawing.
